Directing

A good script is the solid foundation between actor and director. If you then give them a background to the character then the actors are on their way to getting under the character’s skin. After that it’s all about tweaking and fine tuning and helping the actor get under the character’s skin by telling them the characater’s needs and wants and conflicts. At it’s best, the whole interaction between director and actors is like playing cowboys and indians or cops and robbers just like kids used to do. By addressing the actor by their character’s name, they lose their self consicousness and dive into the character and the story.
